After 18 years
in the same house, Kim and Darren DeWitt decided it was time for an
upgrade. But after looking around at other houses on the market, they
knew in their hearts that they didn’t want to move. As they said, “Our
memories are all here!”
They had raised
their three sons in that house. After the boys were grown and moved away,
they started remodeling one room at a time, starting with the kids’
bedrooms. They did most of the work themselves, so the projects have been
going on for years.
Kim knew it was
time to update the kitchen, but also recognized this was going to be a huge job
to do themselves. They drew up some plans which involved removing a wall
between the kitchen and living room, and putting in all new cabinets, including
some where cabinets had not been before – a complete “Room Makeover”.
That is when
Kim saw the sign in front of REAL Services about the 8th annual REAL
Room Makeover Raffle. She called Darren and said “Let’s enter!” So
she printed a coupon on the REAL Services website and bought a single lucky
coupon!
That’s
right! With the purchase of just one coupon, she won the grand prize in
the 2017 REAL Room Makeover Raffle.
Kim works for
Martin’s Super Markets. Darren is a branch manager for TCU and the Youth
Pastor at Osceola United Methodist Church. They are very familiar with
the work of REAL Services.
Both Martin’s
and TCU have been long-time supporters of the mission of REAL Services.
In addition, one of the REAL Services’ Senior Nutrition Sites meets at the
Osceola United Methodist Church. Through his work at TCU, Darren has
often referred people to REAL Services when they needed help. As he
explained, “It is nice to have somebody you can call and trust to help look out
for them.”
The updated
kitchen is a major step in making their home one where their family will make
wonderful new memories. “Our memories are all here!” And we know there
are many more to come!
