Awareness
June is World Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. The definition of awareness is being concerned
about an issue and being knowledgeable about the issue. I believe that we are all concerned about the
growing number of our friends and family members that have Alzheimer’s disease. The Centers for Disease Control found that the
number of Americans afflicted by Alzheimer’s and related dementia is likely to
rise rapidly in the coming years. It is estimated that about 5.5 million Americans
65 years and older currently have the disease. By 2050, that’s expected to more
than double to 13.8 million people. This
concerns me as an individual who is over 65 years of age and as a member of the
REAL Services team – a team whose mission is to help those we serve live as
independently as possible.
